Gustavo Petro (Bogotà's Mayor) has proposed the creation of centers in wich drugs addicts will have a safe access to drugs, in order to cut the drug-related crime, with this centers, bogotá will became in the first city in America that has this kind of centers emulating some european cities that have centers to trate heroin additcs.
Initially, there will be opened three centers at strategic points in the city, but firt, the proposal need the aproval of the national governmen. So by the moment, there will be sent vans with doctors and psycologists around the city, to provide assistance to drug addicts.
Of course, the proposal has had many opponents, as inspector General Alejando Ordoñez, who has described the idea as unconstitutional because it contradicts the governments anti-drugs policies.
Furthermore, there have been opinions suporting the mayor's proposal as "El espectador", in the newspaper, they say that is a really good idea, but the mayor has to make several studies and proposals to give weight to the plan.
Meanwhile, in others countries like in Uruguay, the governments have made laws of legalization an distribution of some drugs like marijuana, with these laws, governments will adquire the control of a market that manages around 30-40 million dollars annually.
